General Information

The World Tourism Organization and the Ministry of Tourism and Arts of Zambia are convening the UNWTO Regional Workshop: “Tourism and the Media” to be held in Lusaka, Zambia, from 26 to 27 March 2013. This workshop is open to the participation of English speaking African Member States.

STATUS OF PARTICIPANTS

The Government of Zambia will take the necessary steps to facilitate the arrival and departure of participants invited by the Organization, as well as their stay in Zambia. Throughout their stay, participants will enjoy the privileges and immunities provided for in the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations of 13 February 1946.

 

ENTRY FORMALITIES

A valid passport is necessary for visitors coming to Zambia. Entry visas may be obtained from Zambian Diplomatic missions abroad or at port of entry for further details on check the Zambian immigration website http://www.zambiaimmigration.gov.zm/

Participants who may wish to obtain visa on arrival have to submit in advance their particulars including valid passport, flight numbers, dates and times of arrival to the Ministry of Tourism and Arts of Zambia, not later than 20th March, 2013.

 

TRANSPORT

The Ministry of Tourism and Arts of Zambia will arrange free transport for all participants on arrival and at departure from the airport, as well as return transport between their hotels and the meeting place. All participants are therefore requested to forward to the Ministry of Tourism and Arts of Zambia, as well as to the UNWTO Secretariat, by fax or email, the attached participation form giving details of their arrival and departure and the hotel they will be staying at.

 

AIRPORT TAXES

A departure tax of USD 25 must be paid by all passengers departing on international flights. This tax is generally included in the price of the air tickets.

 

RECEPTION AT THE AIRPORT

A reception and information desk will be open at the international airport of Lusaka at arrival and departure for delegates for different formalities and connections with the hotels.

 

ACCOMMODATION

Participants should make their own accommodation arrangements with the hotels given below where the Government of the host country has secured discounts. When making bookings, delegates must mention they are attending the Workshop on Tourism and the Media, from 26 to 27 March in Lusaka, Zambia.

Participants should make their own reservation at the hotel of their choice, using the below indicated phone numbers, faxes and Emails, not later than 20th March, 2013.

NB: Participants are advised to make bookings as earlier as possible since conference period is within high tourism season.

 

CURRENCY

The currency for Zambia is the Zambian Kwacha. Starting 1st January 2013, Zambia rebased it´s currency, during the workshop period both the old currency and the new rebased currency will be in use, with the old currency code been (ZMK) and the rebased currency code (ZMW). The old currency bank notes include (K50, 000, K20, 000, K10, 000, K5, 000, K1, 000, K500, K100, K50 and K20) old bank coins include (K10, K5, K1, 50 Ngwee and 25 Ngwee) whereas the new bank notes include ( K100, K50, K20, K10, K5 and K2) New bank coins include ( K1, 50 Ngwee, 10 Ngwee and 5 Ngwee). The current rate of exchange on 1 February 2013 is approximately 1US$ = 5,385.00 ZMK or 1US$ = 5.39 KR (ZMW) and 1€ = 7,206.00 ZMK or 1€ = 7.21KR (ZMW).

 

HEALTH

A Valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is required from visitors coming from infected areas.

 

REGISTRATION AND IDENTIFICATION BADGES

A registration desk will be available at the venue one day before the commencement of the meetings. Badges will be issued at the time of registration.

 

WORKING LANGUAGES

The working language of the Workshop on Tourism and the Media will be English and documents will be prepared in this language.

CLIMATE

The average temperature in Lusaka in March ranges between 16 ºC minimum and 27 ºC maximum.

 

LOCAL TIME AND BUSINESS HOURS

The local time in Zambia is +2 of the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Banks and services open from 8:00 am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday while on Saturdays opens at 8:00am to 1:00pm.
