Tourism is one of the world’s largest and fastest growing economic sectors, estimated to represent around 5% of global direct GDP and 30% of the world’s exports of services.  This ranks the sector fourth in overall global exports after fuels, chemicals and automotive products.

For tourism development to be both sustainable and competitive, countries need a thorough understanding of their tourism sector and its role in the economy. This can only be achieved through a reliable and accurate System of Tourism Information (STI).

In this regard,the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities of Uganda are organizing jointly the IGAD/UNWTO Tourism Statistics Workshop for Strengthening of Tourism Statistical Systems and development of Tourism Satellite Accounts for IGAD and Regional Member States, in Kampala, Uganda, from 4-6 July 2017, at the kind invitation of the Government of Uganda.

Registration to this workshop is open for participation by invitations only;
